We were invited into something special by Michelle Cotto of Arenlace Events—a styled shoot that felt less like a production and more like a gathering of people who care deeply about craft. The brief was simple: bring gowns, veils, and accessories that could live beautifully inside one of Monserate Winery’s most cinematic spaces in Fallbrook. We arrived with pieces we’d designed in-house—custom bridal gowns, airy veils, and gloves meant to feel modern but timeless—and a kit for what we do best on wedding days: precise alterations and on-location steaming.
Monserate doesn’t ease you in; it drops you somewhere between California and Tuscany and lets you find your footing. Vines line the approach, the architecture holds the light just long enough, and every turn suggests intention. You can feel the hand of the maker here—this place wasn’t assembled, it was authored. Even with parts of the property still in progress at the time, it already read as complete.
We claimed a corner of the bridal suite and got to work. If you’ve ever wondered what a truly functional getting-ready space looks like, this is it: soft, directional daylight; a 360° mirror with a small platform made for that first full look; seating that invites a pause; a tucked-away kitchenette for champagne and a quick bite; and, behind a discreet door, a full hair-and-makeup room—lit mirrors, generous counters, and room for a proper team. It’s a studio disguised as a sanctuary.
While we unpacked and began steaming gowns (a non-negotiable for photography and a cornerstone of our on-site services), Kendra Jones of Twirly Shears set her stations, and photographers Camila Margotta and Berlynn Photography composed their flat lays with that quiet, meticulous rhythm photographers have. Outside, Michelle and her team shaped the courtyard into a long, convivial tablescape. Then came the cake—architectural, fun and modern, and somehow the best thing we tasted all day—by Connor of Connor's Craft Cakes.
We We moved through the property the way you move through a good story—curious, a little unhurried. The Tuscan Lawn, set against water and a soft cascade, frames a ceremony without asking for embellishment. Between the villa and the barrel room, string lights pull the evening close, turning dinner into something familial and warm. And then there are the in-between places—the corridors of green, the quiet corners—that invite a hand at the waist, a quick kiss, a walk that lingers just long enough for the camera to forget it’s there.
Our pieces held their own here. That matters to us. We design custom wedding gowns and veils meant to travel well—from first fitting to final photo—and we alter bridal gowns with the same attention we give our originals. On the day-of, we’re the ones in the background making sure every hem falls cleanly, every train photographs beautifully, every fabric reads as it should. It’s the kind of work you notice only when it’s missing.
Some venues are pretty. Monserate Winery is persuasive. It makes a case for slowing down, for doing things with intention, for letting the setting do just enough of the talking. And if they ever add a hotel, consider us first in line—because who wouldn’t want to wake up at dawn, step out into that soft Fallbrook fog, and watch the landscape come to life before anyone else arrives?
